ARMED robbers struck again this past week, when another cash in transit robbery took place in the area. On Friday morniang shots were fired at a lone armoured vehicle on the road between Malmesbury and Riebeek Kasteel. A bullet punctured one of the vehicle’s tyres, forcing the driver, Herman Ellis, to a halt. Another shot struck Ellis in the shoulder and the robbers then gained access to the vehicle, escaping with approximately R12 000. A passing motorist contacted the police and all police stations in the area were put on high alert. The suspect vehicle was noticed heading for Bain’s Kloof, but on arrival, police found it to be abandoned. A widespread search ensued with the help of the dog unit, flying squad, as well as a police helicopter, but the fugitives had vanished. It is now suspected that another getaway vehicle had waited for them near Antonies-vlei, taking the four men to safety. Anybody who can help the police with their investigation can contact Capt Hildegard Mackier at 082-778-6883. This cash-in-transit heist follows close on the heels of another robbery which took place at Dalvale Service Station two weeks ago. During this robbery, more than R3 million was stolen, when security officers were reloading an ATM on the premises. Nobody has been arrested in connection with this heist.
