THE joint 2009 Boland Youth and Junior, and High Schools Track and Field Championships, took place on 27 and 28 February at the Coetzenburg Stadium in Stellenbosch.

The standard of the competition was very high and many performances of national standard were performed by the Boland athletes.

The best performance of the day was from Luvo Manyonya of Desmond Tutu Secondary School who broke the boys’ 19 triple jump Boland junior record of 14,84m which has been standing for 11 years. He jumped 15,54m.

Inge Kotze from Strand also delivered a great performance by winning the 10 000m girls 17 walk in a time of 26:30.10, which is a new Boland record.
Another scholar from Desmond Tutu, Mzwandile Qashani, was crowned the Boland champion in the 100m and 200m for boys u.17.
The event will be used to select a Youth and Junior team that will represent the Boland at the 2009 SA Youth and Junior Championships in Pretoria from 27 to 28 March.
