I TRUST I may use your pages to thank the many selfless acts carried out by many citizens of Paarl during the recent fire on Paarl Mountain.
My wife, Sue and I would particularly like to thank Andrew Bretherton of Paarl Boys’ High, his workers and students from the school who worked long and hard protecting our property, and those of our neighbours.
I know that they also worked elsewhere along the mountain in order to help others too long into the nights. Their feats were only matched by the professional fire-fighters and helicopter crews who were working in incredibly difficult situations, to control the blaze.
We were also touched by the countless phone calls, and SMS messages from friends throughout Paarl, who sent their thoughts and wishes to us.
It may be impossible to be able to thank each individual... but you all know who you are, and we were humbled by your support and thank you.
We know there were many, many others involved too, all along the mountain, and any ommission on my behalf does not preclude our gratitude. What a great town to live in!Guy Davies
