Dogs strike the jackpot

POLICE dogs have once again sniffed out thousands of rands worth of dagga in an informal settlement in Mbekweni.

Police officers and members of the Paarl Dog Unit responded to a complaint of assault, after a young man allegedly stole some dagga.

When he was caught by his assailant, he was beaten severely on the hands.

While the police were taking a statement from the plaintiff, the dog unit and their sniffer dogs scoured the area, until two dogs, Sussie and Chess, struck the jack-pot.

They led their handlers to a shack in OR which was locked. The owner of the house arrived, and unaware that the police were now certain that there was dagga in his house, he unlocked the door for them.

A total 171 parcels were discovered (five bags of 1 kg each and 200 small parcels), ready to be sold on the street.

A man will appear in court today in connection with the dagga.
