Local clubs stand tall in SAB league
2009-03-19
LOCAL soccer club Double V United, together with Mbekweni Sundowns, will once again make their presence felt in the SAB Castle League when the new season kicks off in May. Together with these two sides, newly promoted City Killers (also from Mbekweni), will give it their all in the Castle League. After a reasonable season, Double V recently gained valuable points in their final game of the season against Kayamandi Hotspurs of Stellenbosch. With the game scheduled to be played in Stellenbosch, the home team arrived late for their fixture against the Paarlites. Because of this, Double V were handed a full house of points and finished the league in 12th position on 31 points, one point behind Sundowns (11th on the log). According to the owner and chairman of Double V, Lutfie Hendricks, the club set a simple target in the beginning of the season. “By ending twelfth we send a clear message that we are on the level of other competitors and are ready to play for another season in this prestigious league of Boland,” said Hendricks. The clubs will take a well-deserved rest before they start their preparations for the new season that kicks off in the first week of May.
