Sewege plan to cure Berg River pollution

Sewege plan to cure Berg River pollution

2009-03-26

THE overburdened Franschhoek wastewater treatment works is due to be improved, following regular leakage of untreated effluent into the Berg River.

The problem is to be addressed by expanding the existing wastewater treatment plant at the Wemmershoek sawmill village. It will be linked to the Franschhoek works with a pipeline.

An environmental impact assessment process has been launched by Stellenbosch Municipality to gain environmental authorisation for the project from the provincial department of Development Planning (DEADP). An alternative option of expanding the Franschhoek works is also being investigated.

To register as an interested and affected party, to receive information, and/or to object, submit your name, contact information, and substantiated interest in the project to Simon von Witt by 13 April on fax 021-950-7502 or simonvw@bks.co.za (tel 021-950-7577).
