THE implementation of a 24 hour traffic law enforcement service for Paarl is not going ahead as planned, due to a shortage of funds. This issue was discussed at last week’s Drakenstein mayoral committee meeting. To ensure traffic patrols and law enforcement around the clock will cost the taxpayer more than R725 000 per year. Documentation stated that a 24 hour service would require a third shift which means that six additional traffic officers need to be appointed in Drakenstein. Mayor Charmaine Manuel said that the mayoral committee is in favour of implementing a 24 hour service in principle, but funding is a problem. She added that this service should be considered in the future.
