Winter lectures programme at Hout Street Gallery

CONTRASTING subjects have been arranged for the winter lectures series in the Hout Street Gallery, Paarl. Lectures are Thursdays at 19:00 for 20:00, under the auspices of the Drakenstein Heritage Foundation.
Tonight, antique dealer Geoff Burr who specialises in the Art Deco and Art Nouveau periods, will discuss the pioneering techniques and designs in glassware by Renee Lalique during the period 1911-1945.
* On 18 August, journalist Gerda Coetzee, a former chairman of the Simon van der Stel national body, will deliver a lecture on “How two buildings are changing the lives of two communities”.
* On 24 August, Cyril Hromnic, an authority on indigenous languages and history, holds views that challenge conventional thinking.
