Boland Athletics honoured

DURING the recent Western Cape Sports Award function, the Western Cape Department of Sport presented the award for the best sporting code association in the Western Cape in 2008 to Boland Athletics. The award is for the service provided to its members. “What makes this award even more significant is that Boland Athletics achieved this award without any significant sponsorship in 2008,” said Dr Harold Adams, president of Boland Athletics. “This achievement would not have been possible without the infrastructural support received from the Drakenstein Municipality,” Adams added. During a time when Boland Athletics had to rely mainly on contributions from its members, and to a lesser extent on the contribution of the Western Cape Department of Sport, Drakenstein Municipality supported Boland Athletics extensively with infrastructural support. As a result, Boland Athletics were able to conduct several development projects at the Dal Josaphat Stadium. Boland Athletics provided a service to more than 3 000 000 people in 2008 and the Boland athletes brought honour to the Western Cape by winning more than 100 medals at national level in the various competitions throughout the year.
