BOLAND ATHLETES made the Western Cape proud during the 2009 SA High Schools Athletics Championships that took place in Durban last week from 6 to 7 April.

The Western Cape team, consisting of a combined Boland, WP and South Western Districts Team, won a total of 89 medals during the two day champion-ships.

Of the 89 medals won by the Western Cape athletes, more than 50% were won by the Boland athletes.

A total of 36 medals (15 gold, 14 silver and 7 bronze) were won, with the Boland winning a further 10 medals for the Western Cape in the relay events.

“What was particularly heart warming was the 61% medals that were won by girls from the Boland,” says Pieter Lourens, President of Western Cape Schools Athletics.

“The Boland Girls won 22 medals of the total of 36 medals won by the Boland team.”
