Big turnout expected

A BIG turnout of voters is expected on election day next Wednesday (a public holiday), during the closely contested battle for control of the Western Cape. A total of 112 509 people in the Drakenstein area have registered to vote in the fourth democratic election. Voting stations will be open from 07:00 until 21:00 and voters must go to the polling station where they are registered to vote. Voters have two votes to cast in this election: one ballot is for the provincial government (Western Cape parliament) and the other is for the national government (national parliament). Municipal elections will only take place in two years’ time. Voters can make use of the IEC’s website (www.elections.org.za) to check which voting station to visit and must remember to bring along their green barcode ID book for identification purposes.
