MAN landed up behind bars last week after trying to defend himself.

Bakhele Magunyaza (46) was allegedly attacked and robbed of his wallet and cellphone by Anele Mathakatha (18) at Mbekweni station on Friday morning at approximately 05:30.

While trying to defend himself, he struck Mathakatha on the head with a stone.

Mathakatha sustained a serious head injury and was transferred to Tygerberg Hospital, where he died on Sunday.

Magunyaza appeared in the Paarl Magistrate’s Court on Monday on a charge of murder.
