Cheese festival at local farm

2009-04-23

THE annual SA Cheese Festival will be held at Bien Donné farm between Paarl and Franschhoek from 24 to 27 April.

As expected, the main attraction at the Festival is cheese. Be on the look-out for interesting cheeses such as Barbecue Feta, flavoured with spices and not the traditional herbs; a Yael (Hebrew for goat) that is aged in grape skins and pips, and Clairevaux’s red wine; goat’s milk cheese with chocolate, grappa and nut and many more.

Cheese has shown its prowess as starter, main and dessert.

Nataniël, Jenny Morris, better known as the Giggling Gourmet, chefs Peter Goffe-Wood and Craig Cormac, chef George Jardin, Wayne Rademeyer from Buffalo Ridge, the only place in South Africa where water buffalo are milked and this traditionally Italian Mozzarella is made will also be at the festival. Minki Visser will also do a demonstration.

There will also be lots of fun for the kids.

Kleinplasie will entertain and inform with demonstrations of traditional butter and cottage cheese making.

Tickets are available from Computicket and have to be purchased before the start of the Festival. No tickets will be sold at the gates.

Tickets are R85 for Friday or Monday and R110 per person for Saturday or Sunday. Children 12 years and younger enter for free and senior citizens pay R65.

On Friday, Saturday and Sunday the festival is from 10:00 to 18:00 and on Monday from 10:00 to 17:00.
