WITH over 45 multiple award-winning authors on the programme, this year’s Franschhoek Literary Festival (FLF) promises a feast of books and authors.

Headline writers at the FLF 2009 include Alexandra Fuller (coming from the USA), André Brink, who will be talking about his new memoir, Vikas Swarup, the author whose book inspired the Oscar-winning Slumdog Millionaire, Professor Tim Noakes, cartoonist Zapiro, satirists (and rock icon) Koos Kombuis and Tom Eaton, columnists Max du Preez and Fred Khumalo, the biographers of Zuma and Trevor Manuel, leading TV personality and oral poet Lebo Mashile, rap poet BlaqPearl, Justin Cartwright from the UK, Christopher Hope from France, Tan Twan Eng from Malaysia. Petina Gappah from Switzerland, Mike van Graan (bringing his third stand-up comedy Bafana Republic: Penalty Shootout and many more.

* André Brink: Event 5 can be seen on Friday 15 May from 14:30 till 15:30 (in conversation with Susan Mann about his new memoir), Two Chefs in Conversation (10:30 on Friday 15 May in the Hospice Hall) when Franschhoek chefs Reuben Riffel and Neil Jewell talk about their new books with Donald Paul.

* Cricket fans: Event 12: Anyone for Cricket? (10:00 on Saturday 16 May in the Franschhoek High School hall) features Tim Noakes, Tom Eaton and Helen Moffett discussing with Cape Talk broadcaster John Maytham their collaboration on The Art and Science of Cricket and the man whose legacy it captures, the late Bob Woolmer.

* Event 19: Zuma (13:00 on Saturday 16 May in the Franschhoek High School hall). Biographer Jeremy Gordin and Fred Khumalo talk about the next SA president, chaired by Peter Harris.

Unless otherwise indicated, ticket prices for the FLF are R60 per event, with part of the proceeds going to the FLF Library Fund.
