A MOTORCAR which had been stolen from a farm in Wellington, was retrieved when friends of the victim discovered it next to the road near Saron.

Dawn and Roger Jörgenson from Versailles farm were away for the Easter weekend. Little did they know that their house had been burgled, with various valuable items being stolen.

According to police, the burglars gained access to the farm house by forcing open a window. They hereafter proceeded through the house, carefully selecting various valuable items to add to their loot.

They also came across the keys to Dawn’s Mercedes Benz which was parked on the property. This was reversed close to the front door, and the spoils packed inside.

Included in the loot was a very heavy safe containing firearms. antique jewellery, and the family’s personal documentation.

In the mean time, friends were heading for the Cedarberg via Saron, when they passed an abandoned Mercedes next to the road. They recognised the vehicle as that of Dawn, and concerned for her safety, contacted her immediately. The police were informed and the safe, which had been forced open, and various other items were found near the abandoned vehicle. But there is still no sign of the perpetrators.

Police are still scratching their heads over the selectivity of the burglary. Even a stamp collection was stolen, but computers were left behind.

Although some of the jewellery was retrieved, heirlooms such as a gold gentleman’s fob-watch with the inscription JJ on the back, cameo rings, pearls and other pieces of antique jewellery are still missing.

Anybody who has information about these items can contact insp Gilly Kiewiet at 021-864-9600.
