2009-05-07
A CAREER advisory centre on wheels, the Umsobomvu Mobile Youth Advisory Centre (YAC), is to visit schools in Paarl in May. The specially designed truck, equipped with ten computers and two career councillors, assists Grade 9 to 12 learners with career choices. The Umsobomvu Youth Fund (UYF), created by Government in 2001, promotes entrepreneurship, job creation, skills development and skills transfer among South Africans between the ages of 18 and 35. It is also dedicated to investing in initiatives that create opportunities for young people to get good skills, find job opportunities or even start their own successful businesses. A need for career guidance has been identified by various schools and the Maties Community Service (MCS) of Stellenbosch University has taken initiative to take the Mobile Youth Advisory Centre on a road show in the area. They will visit Kylemore Secondary School on 7 May, New Orleans Secondary on 13 May, and Weltevrede Secondary on 14 May.
