THE Fantasticks, a 1960s musical with music by Harvey Schmidt and lyrics by Tom Jones, will be presented by Bridge House College from 13 till 15 May at 19:00.

It tells an allegorical and comical story about two mothers who put up a wall between their houses to ensure that their children fall in love, because they know that children always do what their parents forbid.

The mothers hire the famous El Gallo (played by Sean Jacobs) to stage an elaborate abduction where Luisa (Jade Kramer) is kidnapped and saved by Matt (Kent Fourie). And so the children do fall in love until they discover their mothers’ plot and they each go off and experience other things in the world, to be reunited once again.

The Fantasticks is a musical about illusions: the illusions of the young lovers, the illusions of their parents (Danielle Davenport, Fran Michel), the illusions of the old actors (Nicola Landau, Julia Bolton).

But most of all, it is about the theatrical illusion itself, the agreement between the artists and the audience to create an imaginary world together.

It is a fantastical and enchanting show for anybody and everybody between the ages of 8 and 88, if they dare to still believe in magic.

With a brilliantly talented cast, The Fantasticks promises to entertain and enthral audiences like never before!

Bookings at College reception or 021-874-8100. Tickets are R70 (R50 for students).
