2009-05-07
THE election results in Franschhoek and Pniel have also shown a decisive swing to the DA, as in Drakenstein. Klapmuts, however, came out in favour of the ANC (43%), followed by die DA (33%), ID (10%) and Cope 6%). In Franschhoek, the only ward which did not go to the DA, was the northernmost section of Franschhoek North (Groendal Secondary polling station), where the ANC obtained 1277 votes (74%) compared to the DA’s 158 (9,2%), followed by Cope (9%) and the UDM (6,7%). In all other wards in the area, the DA was the most popular party. The results were: Franschhoek South (DA 76%, ANC 9,8%, Cope 5%, ID 2,8%), Groendal sportsgrounds (DA 44%, ANC 39%, Cope 7%, ID 3%), La Motte (DA 36%, ANC 19%, ID 34%), Wemmershoek (DA 60%, ID 19%, ANC 12,9%), Groot Drakenstein (54%, ANC 21%, ID 13%, Cope 9%), Pniel and Kylemore (DA 47%, ANC 37%, Cope 8%, ID 5%). Despite the significant swing away from the ANC in Drakenstein and Stellenbosch, both these municipalities will still be ruled by the ANC until 2011, when the next municipal election is held.
