A TWELFTH victim of the Paarl Print fire has died of her injuries, more than two weeks after a fatal explosion in the Dal Josaphat factory. Danielle Albertyn (30), of Belhar in Cape Town, succumbed to her wounds on Monday morning. She was a machine operator in the bindery division of Paarl Print, which was the worst hit by the flames. Her husband Bradley also worked at the same factory, as a storeman. They have a seven-year-old daughter and a five-year-old son. Two of the injured, Sharon Adonis and (44) and Douglas Roman (48), remain in a critical, but stable condition. Hilton Vaughan (36) and David Cupido (45) are in a stable condition in the hospital. Nine people lost their lives in the tragic fire on 17 April, with another two dying in the aftermath. Fears about the future of Paarl Print have been unfounded, with business continuing. Printing has been outsourced to various companies in Cape Town, and office personnel are working from out the offices of Paarl Web and Paarl Post. Factory staff continue to work at companies within the Paarl Media Group, and even the tea lady has been relocated. Last week Paarl Media announced that Paarl Print will remain in Paarl, and not be moved elsewhere. This is being done in the faith that the community of Paarl, who have been loyal to Paarl Print over the years, and the support of clients will make this possible. The re-establishment will not occur on the current Paarl Print site, as all buildings have been condemned by the Department of Labour. An attempt to rebuild Paarl Print at this site would take at least 18 months and the company would like to get things going as soon as possible. A memorial service for those who lost their lives in the fire will be held on Saturday at 10:00 at Nederburg Wine Estate.
