IN reference to the superb letter written on disabled parking by Anita Brand.
I would like to add that as a person who also holds a permit for such parking, it becomes infuriating to see how so many local businesses abuse a service that is made available for us, disabled people.
The only parking bay in front of Nedbank on Jan Phillips Square in Paarl is used as either a delivery van parking bay or for those that go banking, with total disregard for what the designated purpose of the bay is.
Then there is one in front of the old Post Office, same story for people going to FNB, then the one in front of Absa in Main Street, same story.
All three of these particular disabled bays seem to be very popular as venues for municipal vehicle parking, yes, even for the Traffic Department (the very ones that we need to go to in order to obtain our disabled parking permits).
Why doesn’t the Municipality create more such bays in areas where they are required or at least enforce their correct use?
As retired assistant town planner of Paarl for many years it seems that things have truly gone down the tube.
