Paarl Mall nears completion
2005-08-11
RESIDENTS of the Paarl area are eagerly awaiting their first opportunity to enjoy the beautiful new mall that seeks to blend the best of the unique Paarl heritage with the excitement and convenience of the modern, urban lifestyle.
With just three-and-a-half months to go before opening, Paarl Mall, the new shopping destination in the Valley, is well on the way to being fully let.
And, says Pat Flanagan of co-investors Flanagan and Gerard, “beneficial occupation has commenced and tenants are gearing up for the 20 October opening.”
The 100 outlets include anchor tenants Pick ‘n Pay, Edgars, Woolworths, Truworths, the Pepkor/Ackermans Group, Foschini and the Clicks Group - as well as a broad selection of branded retailers, restaurants and coffee shops.
The focus is now on leasing the last few remaining stores to retailers that will compliment the tenant mix.
The structure is all but complete on the R320 million development with activity now being concentrated on the malls and shop interiors.
Architects MDS have been particularly sensitive to the unspoilt beauty and history of the area. The Centre is designed to make the most of its natural surroundings and evoke a feeling of open space.
Visitors can look forward to eating in the shade of fully grown trees in the food court.
The look and feel of the Mall is an interesting blend of contemporary and typical Cape farm style. Sky and mountain views will frame the warm interiors incorporating natural stone and timbers.
Paarl residents will also soon experience the new access route from the N1 to Paarl Mall.
This R15 million road infrastructure development provides superb access not only to Paarl Mall, but materially improves the access and egress to greater Paarl.
The glistening new Mall is destined to bolster tourism in the area too.
“Paarl is already a major tourist destination with its beautiful scenery, wine routes, guest houses, adventure trails, history, ambience and remarkable 11 kilometres-long Main Street. Paarl Mall will provide yet another enticing draw card for visitors,” says Dave Setzkorn of the Grapnel Property Group, who are not only co-investors in the Centre, but also the Managing Agents
