Oude Denneboom is best kept secret
2009-05-21
ARGUABLY the best kept secret in the Voor Paardeberg ward, Agter-Paarl, is the Oude Denneboom Wine Farm. Not only does this boutique operation produce Rhone-style award-winning wines, but they also offer luxurious four star accommodation in the middle of the game reserve on the farm. Owner Niel de Waal has named some of their wines after the animals in the game camp on the farm where there are zebra, wildebeest, bontebok, springbok and eland. The Steenbok 2008 was awarded a silver medal at the Swiss International Airline Awards, while Eland 2007 received four stars in the latest edition of Wine magazine. But it is winemaker Hannes Aucamp’s 2006 Shiraz that took the Trophy for Best Single Vineyard Shiraz.
