THE 2007 Pierneef Shiraz Viognier from La Motte has won a gold medal at the Decanter World Wine Awards in London.

Of the 10 285 wines entered, only 2,8% won gold or a trophy and 12,5% won silver.

Hein Koegelenberg, La Motte CEO, said that it was a team effort.

“We are very honoured to have received such prestigious recognition which is a testimony to the effort and dedication of the team at La Motte.

“The Pierneef Shiraz Viognier is a wine very close to our hearts and I am glad that passion comes through.”

Following hot on the heels of previous Pierneef Shiraz Viognier vintages, all of which have enjoyed phenomenal local and international recognition – the 2005 taking Best South African Shiraz and Best South African Red at the International Wine Challenge in 2007, the 2006 receiving a Gold Award at Mundus Vini in Germany and a Double Gold at Veritas, and the 2007 vintage having also just won Gold at the Santam Classic Wine Trophy 2009.
