Awards for wine estates

The award-winning 5-star Grande Provence Heritage Wine Estate in Franschhoek and the Allée Bleue Estate in Franschhoek have added prestigious wine awards to their list of accolades by winning gold medals at the annual Concours Mondial de Bruxelles in Brussels. The Concours Mondial de Bruxelles recognises excellence in wine-making and gives winemakers the opportunity to showcase the best of their vintages. This wine show encompasses wine making regions and consists of 6 289 wines and spirits from 54 producing countries. Jaco Marais, Grande Provence’s Winemaker comments: “We are extremely honoured to receive an Aof such a high calibre for doing something that we enjoy – making wine.” The Allée Bleue Chenin Blanc 2008, from the Allée Bleue Estate also received an impressive gold award. Wine-maker Gerda Willers describes the Chenin Blanc as, “a full fruity wine with a pleasant and perfumed nose revealing pineapple and melon aromas with sweet floral and citrus undertones. This sultry liquid has an intensely rich, creamy palate with lingering orange peel and tropical flavours.” THE MAN Vintners Cabernet Sauvignon 2007 has again been rated as a “Best Value” in the Wine Enthusiast Magazine (USA). In the latest issue, the MAN Cabernet scored 88 points with a Best Value designation and was described as being an “elegant Cabernet, appealing, New World style red.” This is the third “Best Value” award in a row for the MAN Vintners Cabernet. This is the fourth Best Value award in a row for the MAN Chenin Blanc, with previous vintages scoring 85 points (2007), 87 points (2006) and 86 points (2005), all designated as “Best Value” wines. MAN Vintners wines continue to build an excellent reputation in the media in the USA. The 2007 red wines have performed exceptionally well this vintage: all three 2007 wines have been awarded “Best Value” awards by the Wine Enthusiast. The MAN Vintners Pinotage 2007 received an 88 point rating and the MAN Vintners Shiraz 2007 received a 89 point rating, also being listed as one of the Top 100 Best Value wines for 2008 in the Wine Enthusiast magazine.
