MOTORISTS forked out almost R80 000 in traffic fines last weekend during intensive roadblocks which were conducted in Paarl.

This was a joint operation, aptly named Operation Prosper, conducted on Friday and Saturday by the provincial head-quarters of the SAPS and traffic departments, the Cape Town Metro Police and the various cluster stations of the Boland, including Paarl.

During the operation 333 vehicles were stopped and traffic fines to the value of R78 000 were issued for different traffic offences such as outstanding traffic fines, unlicensed and unroadworthy vehicles.

Vehicles were also searched for drugs and other illegal items.

A spokesperson for the police said that the operation proved successful and they were satisfied with the outcome.

“We will not tolerate lawlessness and in the future more such operations will be held.”
