A LOCAL Paarl businesswoman, Michelle Pietersen, has been nominated by the Business Women’s Association as a finalist in the category Emerging Entrepreneur in the Regional Business Achievers Awards for 2009. The regional winners will be announced on 18 June. Pietersen, the owner of the Lofted Bed & Breakfast in Richmond Avenue, and mother of two, is also actively involved in community work. She works as project manager of 25 community projects for the Stellenbosch University’s Matie Community Service. “I have a good support structure and with a full-time housekeeper and four part-time employees, I manage a busy schedule. I do believe in social upliftment and I think the panel has also taken that into account in the nomination process. “In the last few years we have had fantastic growth in the business, but I still believe in keeping our accommodation prices affordable,” says Pietersen, who trained as a music teacher. Michelle registered the Lofted B&B in May 2007. In August that same year she secured her first big contract and in 2008 the bathroom facilities were upgraded to accommodate the physically challenged. In addition to the B&B, Michelle registered Yazeri Events Management in 2007, using this as a vehicle to have regular networking sessions for small business owners and getting involved in the annual Festival of Lights.
