Substance abuse march on Youth Day

Substance abuse march on Youth Day

2009-06-11

THE Lighthouse Rehabilitation Centre, a non-profit organisation in Wellington, is marching against substance abuse on Youth Day on Tuesday.

The march starts at 13:00 in Sylvester Street, Wellington and Ellen Pakkies will also take part.

The centre started a support group for youth involved in tik and other substances in 2007, but had problems to sustain the support group.

Earlier this year Pakkies came to speak to the community in the Wellington Community Hall.

According to Samuel du Plessis, the chairman, the attendance by the public and the big need for help that evening, made them decide to start a registered organisation.

“We are in the process of registering as a non-profit organisation.”

They present group sessions every Tuesday evening at the centre at 12 Abrahams Street in Wellington.

The rehabilitation centre’s objective is to reach the youth in the community, especially those who are caught up in the web of tik and other substances.

For more information, contact Samuel du Plessis on 079-083-1808.
