SA ATHLETE Mzwandile Qashani (Desmond Tutu Secondary) came second in the 200m event (22,01secs), after Sean de Klerk of Athletics Free State, during the Southern Region Youth Championships in Pretoria on Saturday.
South Africa’s youth athletes dominated the Championships, with a haul of 26 gold, 17 silver and four bronze medals.
Athletes from eleven neighbouring countries participated in the Championships to prepare for the IAAF World Championships, which will take place next month in Bressanone, Italy.
