TO most children, school holidays mean sleeping late, having time for a good breakfast, relaxing on the couch in front of the TV, spending time with friends and eating a fair share of junk food. For parents, school holidays mean not having to pull your children out of bed in the morning and the opportunity for some family time. However managing school holidays can mean having to find new activities to keep children busy. Fortunately this year the Paarl area is more than prepared. During the next few weeks there are a range of activities and events which aim to amuse and cater for those on school holiday. There are activities at local libraries and churches.Face-painting, colouring-in and singing are happening daily at Paarl Mall, while cooking classes and art classes are happening during the week at Dwars in die Weg Centre. If children are needing an outlet for energy the Paarl Methodist Church is currently holding soccer, basketball, dancing and arts & crafts activities. Apart from these new holiday events, there are regular activities which could amuse those on holiday. Lila Botes knows this and plans to, “be chilling in Paarl and going to the movies with friends.” Going to the gym is another favourite. If you are nature loving and crave the outdoors; like 5-year-old Rebecca Read who will be ‘mostly going mountain climbing with her mom and her gran’, you can take a hike up Paarl Mountain or go mountain-biking. Another holiday favourite is taking a brief road-trip,travelling to places such as Langebaan or Franskraal on the coast for a day. This winter holiday should be fun for both children and parents as the options for entertainment and relaxation in Paarl seem to be endless. Do not hesitate to take advantage of the holiday spirit and activities around town because on 20 July its back-to-school. Relax, sit back and let the good times begin,
