ONLY 200 of the 360 employees of Paarl Print will be employed from 18 July while about 160 people will be retrenched, following the fire which destroyed the printing plant on 17 April.

Through a consultative process with a forum comprising of SATU, CEPPWAWU and non-unionised representation, an agreement was reached in principle to conclude the proposed restructuring process by 17 July.

The 200 employees who remain in the company will be accommodated inside the Paarl Media Group until such time that the equipment for the re-established Paarl Print arrives on the site of Paarl Web (Paarl Web is to amalgamate with Paarl Gravure in Cape Town).

Once the equipment has arrived, Paarl Print should be re-established on the site of Paarl Web by April or May 2010.
