THE 2009 Berg River Canoe Marathon kicks will take place next week, from 15 to 18 July, with all the popular new features, including the relay format option and the team race.

The marathon for all entrants will start on 15 July at 09:30 at Market Street Bridge.

It will be raced over four stages covering 240km to finish on Saturday 18 July in Velddrif.

The second day will finish at Bridgetown and not Elani. The start on the last day will be at Zoutkloof.

With water flow assured thanks to the new Berg River Dam, a thrilling canoe marathon can be expected this year.
