Wine industry at your fingertips

THAT handy annual publication with information on the South African wine industry, the SA Wine Industry Directory, is now available in its 11th edition of 504 pages. An indispensable reference tool for professionals in the wine and associated industries, it’s again filled with vital information which covers the wide spectrum of workings and role players of the Cape winelands – as well as the ongoing expansion and dynamism of the industry, despite the world-wide recession which is also affecting the world of wine. This volume – from the Wineland Publications stable which also publishes the monthly magazine WineLand – contains comprehensive, updated information on things like wine producers, brands, organisations, awards, wine writers, cultivars, clones, nurseries, wine routes, maps and websites. All this with the relevant contact information. Altogether 54 wine organisations are listed over 30 pages. Important new additions are chapters with guidelines on compliance with BEE implementation and grape production cost analyses as guideline for sustainability – both supplied by experts from VinPro, the wine producers’ representative organisation. The wine producers/brands section alone has 1 160 entries (118 pages) and is now printed on light green pages for easy reference. The list of organisations which supply products or services to the industry has now reached the 160 mark. The wine grape cultivars chapter has been expanded to include new smaller production cultivars. The Sawid concludes with a comprehensive section which – in collaboration with SA Wine Industry Information and Systems (Sawis) – provides the latest statistics on the South African and international wine industries.
