FRANSCHHOEK resident Jeremy Davids (25) will soon appear on national television in the new KykNet sitcom Deeltitel Dames.

Jeremy, who studied drama at the University of Stellenbosch, works part-time as a waiter at a local hotel. He has always had a passion for art and literature, but especially for theatre and is the director of Youth Affair, a group of youngsters in Franschhoek well-known for their drama production Made in Franschhoek.

When his agent called saying that he had made it to the top ten for the part of ‘Wesley’ in Deeltitel Dames he was very excited: “It came as a huge surprise because I did not even audition for this part!”

In the series he will be playing the part of an 18-year-old teenager who has lost direction in life due to his parents’ divorce.

He describes the role as very challenging, as the story line is very serious, but also funny.

Jeremy is thrilled to be working with some of South Africa’s most experienced television actors like Denise Newman, who will be playing his mother, and Cedwyn Joel, who plays the role of his father.

“They helped me a lot, they calmed me and thus helped me to remember my lines.

According to Jeremy, acting is “hard work”, but a nice challenge. Shooting starts at 07:00 in the morning and only at 18:00 in the evening does he get to see the outside world.

“The schedule is very tight and there’s no time to sit around.”

He says come what may, he will definitely not leave behind his involvement in upliftment of the Franschhoek youth, and for now he will not quit his job at the hotel.

“I have a huge passion for uplifting our next generation of leaders and believe there is so much talent in Franschhoek that should still be discovered.”

He is also involved with the Franschhoek Literary Festival and the Delta Trust.

“The people of Franschhoek don't see much of me right now, but doing television work will help me inspire the youth and promote our valley even more.”
