Art that heals the hurt
2009-07-23
AN evening of music and art will be held at the Mountain Shadows Guest-house in Klein Drakenstein on Saturday 1 August. Ticket sales at this event are in aid of Amado, a local non-profit centre for needy children. Children are assisted to overcome physical and mental disabilities through therapy on horseback. The public is welcome to a preview of the art on display in the manor-house, from 28 July to 2 August. The acclaimed Afrikaans jazz singer, Petronel Baard, will perform at the opening night, before a light supper is served. Inspiration for the special exhibition, which she titled “Celebrate Life”, came from Paarlite Janet Malherbe. Like most of the artists, Janet has found solace through painting after she lost a daughter. Another artist, Dalene Buckle from Wellington, lost a son after a motor accident. Art on exhibition is by Corlia Basson, M’Lani Basson, Dalene Buckle, Trevor Cleevely, Elsabe de Villiers, Yogi Frater, Ingo Lützeler, Janet Malherbe, Linda Reid and Cecile Rossouw. Tickets at R100, which includes supper, are available from Le Clerq’s Art Supplies in Dwars- in-die-Weg, 285 Main Street, Paarl. Call Sureta at 021 872 1049. There will be a cash bar on the opening night, as well as credit facilities. Call Janet on 082-553-8928 for more information.
