RENOWNED Russian soprano Evgenia Grekova will perform at the Nederburg music concert on 9 August at 17:00 during her debut concert tour of South Africa. The concert will take place at the Nederburg Manor House.
A sought-after singer on the international music circuit, Grekova is equally at home performing lieder, oratorio and operatic roles and is considered one of the world’s brightest young singing talents.
Numerous guest appearances have taken her to Stuttgart, Erfurt, Braunschweig, Mannheim, Gstaad, Monaco, Semperoper Dresden, Alte Oper Frankfurt, Vienna State Opera, Nantes, Angers, China, Russia and now South Africa.
Grekova first visited South Africa in 2006 when she participated in the Vodacom Unisa International Singing Competition in Pretoria where she was named the best concert singer.
Aside from her success in Pretoria, she has also won specialty prizes in other prestigious international competitions including those in Zwickau and Graz in 2000 and in Barcelona in 2004.
She was also the overall finalist at the ARD and Belvedere International Competitions in Vienna in 2005.
Grekova will be accompanied by Irina Puryshinskaja on her South African tour.
A solo pianist in her own right, Puryshinskaja has won numerous piano competitions and is renowned for her skill as an accompanist.
When she is not performing she serves as professor of piano at the Landeskonservatorium Feldkirch in Austria and the University of Music and Performing Arts in Munich.
Grekova and Puryshinskaja’s repertoire will include works by Richard Strauss, Franz Schubert, Sergei Rachmaninov and Leonard Bernstein.
