THE police in Mbekweni are investigating a case of attempted murder against a policeman after a man was shot in the neck.

The incident took place on Friday, 17 July, at 19:30 in Drommedaris Street, Mbekweni. Thandisile Nese (38), a resident of New Rest, and a friend of the suspect was involved in an argument about a seat in a taxi.

The suspect, who is a police official at Cape Town Central police station, allegedly fired four shots into the ground with his official firearm, and one at the victim before fleeing.

On further investigation the police received information that the suspect was later involved in an accident on the R300 road. He was seriously injured and admitted to hospital. Nese was taken to the Paarl Hospital and later transferred to the Tygerberg Hospital.
