Hromnic at Hout Street
2005-08-25
WELL-KNOWN Cyril Hromnic, an authority on indigenous languages and history, holds views that challenge conventional thinking.
His lecture tonight at 19:00 for 20:00 at the Hout Street Gallery, Paarl is the last of this year’s winter lecture series, presented under the auspices of the Drakenstein Heritage Foundation.
He holds that there was a significant enough Indian presence in Southern Africa for them to have been responsible for the construction and workings of many of the ancient gold mines in the region, as well as for some stone work as well.
When trade collapsed after early European intervention some returned to India, others stayed, blending in the locals.
The charge to attend is R25. For inquiries, phone 872-5030.
