Rennie Farms target training

THE Paarl vegetable farm, Rennie Farms, moved closer to its Adult Basic Education and Training (ABET) target this month when it awarded eleven workers ABET certificates. “Our training target is to train a total of 150 workers up to ABET Level 4 by 2012. Each certification brings us closer to achieving this goal and encourages both the learners and management to keep at it,” said Jake Rennie, Rennie Farms’ Finance Director. Rennie Farms has further underlined its support for the program by re-furbishing their training facilities in order to provide staff with a facility which will aid the learning process. Primarily aimed at eliminating illiteracy in order to advance staff within the organisation, the training intervention forms part of the AgriSETA’s national ABET training programme targeting 15 000 learners in farming-related industries. Congratulating the learners, Media Works’ Caroline Knoetze said: “Well done to the learners who received their certificates. This is not only an individual success, but also a motivator to other learners to continue with the training despite the challenges they encounter.” Appointed by the AgriSETA, adult education specialists Media Works provide training materials that comprise of two broad approaches, namely face-to-face classes guided by a facilitator and computer assisted learning that incorporates multi-media programmes with workbooks and facilitator sessions. Founded in 1973, Rennie Farms participates in government’s Land Redevelopment and Distribution (LRAD) programme, which saw 281 workers purchase 43,6% worth of shares in Rennie Farms.
