Nostalgia at its best
2005-08-25
BUCKLE UP and prepare to be taken on a rollercoaster trip down memory lane with the highly-acclaimed, eight-piece powerhouse, professional Swinging Sixties Band with “The Swinging Sixties” at the Barnyard Theatre outside Franschhoek on Friday.
The show features lead vocalists Cedric van de Skrik, Dennis Baker and Jo Rolands with Andy Murray, director and producer, on lead guitar and vocals, Marc de Kock on saxophone and penny whistle, Celeste Williams of “Liriekeraai” fame on keyboards, Rob Stemmet on bass guitar and Rob Ogilvie on drums.
The members of the band have all performed in various Barnyard productions, such as “Roll Over Beethoven”, “Forever Young”, “The Fab Four” and “Legends of Rock”, and in Mike McCullagh’s “Sixty Something” and “Beatlemania” , while many of them have performed in Dubai and in some European countries.
Prepare to be given a good dose of Sixties nostalgia as this versatile band pays tribute to musical icons such as Elvis, The Shadows, The Beatles, Roy Orbison, Jimi Hendrix, Percy Sledge, Dusty Springfield and The Rolling Stones, to mention but a few.
This colourful tribute show with its costume changes and impersonations is a blast from the past, with memorable songs like Stand By Me, When A Man Loves A Woman, Pretty Woman, Satisfaction, Do You Love Me?, Mustang Sally and Mrs Robinson, to mention but a few.
The show starts at 20:00 while the doors open at 18:30 for those who wish to bring their own picnic supper.
Tickets R90. To book, phone Robyn on 874-1505 or 082-371-3267.
