Boland cross-country fourth trial results

THE fourth and final Boland Cross Country Trial took place at the Drakenstein Correctional Services grounds on Saturday. The Correctional Services Athletics Club, the host of this year’s Boland Cross Country Trial, prepared a well designed cross country course. The trial concluded the preparation of the Cross Country athletes in preparation for the 2009 Boland Cross Country Championships that will take place on Saturday 15 August on the premises of the Allandale Correctional Services grounds in Paarl. The 2009 Boland Cross Country Championships will be the last opportunity for athletes to qualify for the Boland team to the 2009 SA Cross Country Championships. Athletes who have done well in the men’s categories during the 2009 cross country season, were William Kaptein (Robertson Athletics), Hillroy Slingers (Worcester Athletics) and Henrico Rooi (Nedbank Athletics) from Paarl. Rooi won two of the four trials in the senior men’s category. Athletes who have done well in the women’s categories, were Janey van der Merwe (Worcester Gymnasium), Sulette Kotze (Swartland HS), Dominique Scott (Rhenish HS), Elene Lourens (Maties Athletics) and Mia Prinsloo (Maties Athletics). According to the Boland Athletics Selection Criteria for Cross Country, only the winner of the 2009 Boland Cross Country Champs will qualify automatically for the team to the 2009 SA Cross Country Championships. The remainder of the team will be selected, based on the performances of the athletes during the cross country trials and the 2009 Boland Cross Country Championships.
