Rotary project at roof height

Rotary project at roof height

2005-08-25

THE first phase of the new community centre at the Paarl Salvation Army centre has reached roof height and the roof cladding is in place.

With a roof over their heads, the various trades can now continue with the internal finishing and plastering, unhindered by the weather outside.

The project is part of Paarl Rotary’s centennial festivities and will include consulting rooms, accommodation and catering facilities for both overnight and longterm visitors, workrooms and a thrift shop to help sustain the project once it is operational.

In a few months, the Salvation Army will be able to move into their new accommodation block, shop and workshop. That will be a great relief to them no doubt as at present the church building is used for this purpose.

Rotary has been the driving force organising this major project but the community of Paarl, industries, trades, commerce, visitors, and individuals, have been the real heroes in making the project possible.

Support of Rotary’s fundraising efforts and many donations is what is turning this need into a realisable solution. All funds raised by Rotary are used in the furtherance of projects - none is taken for administrative expenses.

This haven for abused women and children is a continuation of work previously undertaken by Rotary, including the establishment of a hospice, the night shelter, literacy, drug counselling at schools, Carols by Candlelight, TB and many more.

For further information related to the project or to make a contribution, contact Rotarians Chubby Howell at tel/fax 869-8066 or email chubby@donkerhoek. co.za; or Marc Friederich at 863-3980 or chezmarc@mweb.co.za.
