BOEREWORS-MAKERS from all nine of South Africa’s provinces are preparing their special boerewors ingredients for the first 30 regional rounds taking place on Saturday at locations countrywide.
The Paarl round will be held at Checkers Paarl, on the corner of Lady Grey and Kasteel Street, from 10:00. Members of the public are invited to go and watch the boerewors-fundis as they battle it out to determine whose boerewors is good enough to go through to the provincial round. Lucky draws and give-aways will also be held.
An independent judging panel, selected and trained by the South African Chefs Association will judge each regional round where prospective Boerewors Champions have to braai 1kg of their own-recipe boerewors which will be judged raw and cooked. Winners of the Paarl round go through to the provincial round on 19 September, with the final at Sun City on 3 October. The 2009 winning recipe will be on the shelves of all Shoprite, Checkers and Checkers Hyper stores by 15 October. Visit www.champion shipboerewors.co.za for the results.
