Last chance to qualify for Boland cross country

THE 2009 Boland Cross Country Championships will take place this Saturday on the premises of the Allandale Correctional Services in Paarl. The Boland Cross Country Championships will be the last opportunity for athletes who want to qualify for the Boland team to the 2009 SA Cross Country Championships. According to the Boland Athletics selection criteria for Cross Country, only the winner of the Boland Cross Country Championships will qualify automatically for the team to the SA Cross Country Championships. The remainder of the team will be selected, based on the performances of the athletes during the cross country trials and the 2009 Boland Cross Country Championships. A team consisting of athletes in the age categories 15 years, 17 years, 19 years and senior categories will be selected to represent the Boland at the 2009 SA Cross Country Championships, which will take place in Pretoria on 12 September. There the athletes will attempt to qualify for the 2010 IAAF World Cross Country Championships. Also at the Boland Cross Country Championships a team of athletes will be selected to represent Boland Schools at the Western Cape Schools Cross Country Championships on 15 August. At the Western Cape Schools Cross Country Championships the school athletes can qualify for the Western Cape Schools team to the SA Schools Cross Country Championships on 27 September in Kimberley. Saturday’s Boland Cross Country Championships will start at 10:00 with the senior men 12km. The other age groups will compete between 10:00 and 14:45.
