THE Asics Wellington Gravel Travel mountain-bike event takes place at Diemersfontein Wine and Country Estate on 15 August.

The event is now in its second year after a highly successful first event in 2008.

In its first year it was one of the biggest first-time events on the Pedal Power Association (PPA) calendar with over 800 entrants.

As this is such a popular event, and it is expected to grow considerably, entries are limited to 1200 riders. This is to ensure that the trail is not too crowded and riders can enjoy their ride.

It is important to enter early in order to avoid disappointment.

To make the event more exciting, an additional single track has been included for the adrenalin junkies. The 60 km route will be challenging, but within reach of the fit rider.

The 30 km route is similarly exciting, but less time will be spent on the saddle. This will give riders more time to enjoy the food and wine marquee at the finish.

All the wine farms of the area will be present in the marquee for wine tasting. There will be ample food and wine for the hungry riders.

To make this a real family event there will also be a 5 km race for the kids.
