Emile is living his dream
2009-08-20
THE Life Cycling Academy’s Emile Jacobs - a member of the Pick n Pay Ascends team - is currently competing in Europe after being chosen to represent South Africa in Belgium’s 75km Polleur Stoumont-Pilleur event. Jacobs (16) attends New Orleans Secondary School. Jacobs and fellow South African Jayde Julius, were the only two u.16 cyclists selected by team manager Barry Austin to compete against 150 of the best European u.16 cyclists. While bad luck saw Emile crashing during the race and finishing in 76th position, his general performance in Europe has been good, with four Top Ten finishes to his name, to date. Last year Emile, a former u.14 South African Track and Road Cycling Champion (2007), was one of six South African cyclists to visit the Tour de France as part of a Velokhaya delegation. Velokhaya is a fundraising and awareness programme which uses the sport of cycling to uplift and empower South African youth. Emile will return to South Africa at the end of August.
