AFTER a burglary suspect was taken into custody for questioning recently, a pool of water next to the Berg River had to be drained, in order for the police to search for stolen goods. Abraham Jack of Fairyland, who was arrested days after a burglary in Groenvlei, Paarl North, admitted during questioning by the police that he had hidden jewellery which had been stolen during the burglary in a dam of water under the Long Street bridge nearby. Police diver Insp Duppie du Plessis turned to the Drakenstein Municipality for help to empty the pool. Once the water had been pumped out, a large quantity of jewellery was found. This jewellery has been positively identified as that which had been stolen in Groenvlei, but certain items of jewellery are still missing. Anybody who can help the police, can contact Const Xolani Makapula on 021-807-4000. * Two more alleged burglars were arrested last week after a burglary in Barlinka Street, Paarl. Members of the Paarl police were on the scene shortly after the incident and eyewitnesses were able to give them descriptions of the two perpetrators. The police then followed their trail, and the men were discovered in Myburgh Street with the owner’s laptop computer in their possession. Enver Cupido and Elvin de Vlam were arrested. Both men have previously clashed with the long arm of the law.
