THE Nederburg Concert on Sunday 6 September at 17:00 sees top Swiss musicians Bruno Meier (flute) and Nicolas Corti (viola) perform with the renowned Dutch classical guitarist, Han Jonkers, in an intimate recital of Viennese style music and classical music by Swiss composers.
Supported by Pro Helvetia, the Swiss Arts Council, the musicians will play classical music originally written for their instruments.
Their concert at Nederburg will feature works by Joseph Kreutzer, Heinrich Neumann, Willy Burkhard, Rudolf Kelterborn and Antonio Diabelli.
“We choose this repertoire, because the music is relatively unknown and we think this music should have a broader audience,” says Jonkers.
Their Nederburg programme will include most of the music the trio recorded on their CD “Music from the Biedermeier”, which was released in 2001 and proved to be a critical and commercial success.
Although resident in Switzerland, the musicians teach and perform around the world.
Aside from their performance schedule the trio will be holding master classes during their tour of South Africa.
While the tour marks Meier and Corti’s first trip to South Africa, Jonkers is no stranger to the country having performed here in 2002 and 2005.
Tickets are R125 per person and include wine and a light supper.
