ELEVEN citizen awards will be featured when the Drakenstein Municipality hosts its first annual Citizens Excellence Awards during November.

This is to celebrate, recognise and honour individuals and groups who have made significant contributions to their communities.

* Community Leadership Award: Honours an individual whose performance is considered exemplary by the community and peers.

* Youth Award: Honours an individual for contributing to the development of youth in the community.

* Human Rights Award: Honours an individual who through his or her determination and dedication has contributed to human rights in the community.

* Sportsperson Award: Honours an individual for outstanding sport achievement.

* Arts Legend Award: Honours an individual for creating, fostering and supporting outstanding local arts and culture.

* Champion of Women’s Rights award: Honours a woman who through her determination and dedication has contributed to women’s rights in the community.

* Business Legend Award: Honours an individual for his or her contribution to the growth of overall investment potential in the community.

* Sport Legend Award: Honours an individual who has achieved outstanding performance or overcome personal obstacles and in this way contributed fundamentally to sport in the community.

* Contribution to Health Matters Award: Honours NGOs or individuals primarily responsible for saving lives or improving the quality of life in the community.

* Contribution to Education Award: Honours an individual who excels at promoting best practice in education.

* Political Contribution Award: Honours an individual who has made a politically significant contribution to the community.

Nominations or application forms are obtainable from all Drakenstein libraries and administrative officers as well as on ww.drakenstein.gov.za.

Applications should consist of a covering letter with a justification from the nominator, as well as the curriculum vitae and a letter of consent from the nominee.

Applications can be submitted at the Corporate Services Department at the Paarl Civic centre between 08:00 and 16:00 on week days, or fax to 021-872-8054 or email ceo@ drakenstein.gov.za. The closing date for nominations is 30 September.
