CHAMPAGNE TASTE with Danièl Pascal will première at Cultivaria in Paarl on Thursday 24 September at 11:00 at the Paarl Gymnasium auditorium.
Pascal will sing the ultimate, incredible, exotic, sexy, sensual and hilarious Eartha Kitt.
She recreates the legendary singer with her personality, voice and available attributes.
An evening of sassy fun, harmless coquetry, resilience, survival and laughter.
Pascal growls, purrs, her voice is fire and ice. She is endearing and very funny. Her eyelashes work overtime, they don’t sing, they speak a thousand words and milk a thousand laughs.
The ageless Pascal commands the stage, pulling cabaret from the brink of camp.
From the opening number ‘If you like me, you’d better show it’ the mood is set with a cornucopia of reminders like ‘Give me a frank account, how is your bank account?’.
She is a diva, confident with her voice and comedienne attributes. She brings perfect comic timing to classics like ‘I wanna be evil’, ‘Charleston’, ‘How could you believe me’, ‘Champagne taste’, and much more. Those songs are mostly familiar to Kitt fans with high spots including ’darling, je vous aime beaucoup’, ‘santa baby’, ‘where is my man’ and ‘c’est si bon’.
The show is playfully tongue-in-cheek, but Pascal brings the deeper side too, with real heartbreak and despair to songs like, ‘Guess who I saw today.
The night ends with a sincere version of ‘Here’s to life’.
