Nederburg auction line-up

2009-09-10

THE 35th prestigious annual Nederburg wine auction takes place in Paarl this weekend.

“The standard of wines is particularly high this year, hence the decision to look at expanding on potential purchase options,” says Carrie Adams of Norman Goodfellows, the speciality Johannesburg business that also advises many prominent collectors and restaurateurs

“The outstanding quality of the noble late harvest wines, not normally available to us on the open market, is always a big plus. They carry a ‘collectable’ status amongst our customer base.

“However, at a recent pre-auction tasting there were some other noteworthy wines that I believe will be very attractive to our customers, particularly the Sauvignon Blanc and Petit Verdot.”

This year’s auction on September 11 and 12 is offering 5 739 cases of 156 wines.

Buyers ranging from liquor licensees, restaurant owners, food and beverage buyers for hotels, guest-houses, game lodges and the supermarket retailers, will bid on a range of wines from 73 participants across various brands, estates and wineries.

The major multiples have also confirmed their attendance and plan to buy across the stylistic spectrum this year to satisfy the growing demand for connoisseur wines.

With lot sizes varying from just six bottles to 350 12-bottle cases and a range of options in between, buyers are afforded the flexibility to purchase in line with their specific volume requirements.
